Portugal Selects Their Defending Eurovision Entry!

Over the last two weeks, we’ve seen a total of 26 artists take to the Festival da Canção stage in Portugal, with each act hoping to be the lucky one to represent Portugal on home soil this year. From each of the two semi-finals, a total of 7 entries have qualified from each semi, meaning that 14 acts were ultimately in the running.

Here are the competing acts:

  • Rui David – Sem Medo

  • Susana Travassos – Mensageira

  • Peter Serrado – Sunset

  • Joana Espadinha – Zero A Zero

  • Lili – O voo das cegonhas

  • Catarina Miranda – Para Sorrir Eu Não Preciso De Nada

  • Joana Barra Vaz – Anda Estragar-Me Os Planos

  • David Pessoa – Amor veloz

  • Minnie & Rhayra – Patati Patata

  • Janeiro – (sem titulo)

  • Maria Inês Paris – Bandeira azul

  • Anabela – Pra Te Dar Abrigo

  • Claudia Pascoal – O jardim

  • Peu Madureira – Só Por Ela

The winner was decided through a mixture of jury and televote, and in the event of a tie, it’s the artist with the highest televote score that would win the competition.

We’ll start with the jury results, and the winner of the jury vote was Catarina Miranda with the song Para Sorrir Eu Não Preciso De Nada. In second with the jury was Claudia Pascoal with O Jardim, and in third was Peu Madureira.

With the televote, the winner was Claudia Pascoal, with Catarina Miranda in second with the public voters. In third was Peu Madureira.

With the maths complete, there was in fact a tie between Catarina Miranda and Claudia Pascoal, who both finished on 22 points as both score a 12 points and a 10 points. As we stated above, it’s all about the televote in the case of a tie, so unfortunately for Catarina Miranda, the win went to Claudia Pascoal with the song O Jardim.
